What Is an Archival Pigment Print?
Archival pigment printing uses pigment-based inks and a compatible fine-art substrate. Longevity depends on the complete material system, production standards, framing and display conditions, so request the verified specification.
Ask for the complete material specification
“Archival pigment print” describes an ink-based printing approach, but it does not identify the paper or other support. Ask for the substrate, surface finish and production process for the selected artwork. A matte cotton paper and a photographic surface can present the same image very differently, especially in highlights, shadows and reflections.
Plan display as part of the purchase
Printing quality and framing should be considered together. Confirm whether the print will be mounted, how it will be separated from glazing, and which materials will contact it. Avoid treating an advertised lifespan as a promise for every room: light exposure, temperature, humidity and handling all affect the physical work.
